For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons (daughters) of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons (daughters), by whom we cry, Abba! Father! (Romans 8:14-15, ESV)
Moses is kneeling before God and a personal encounter takes place in Exodus. “Moses said to God, ‘Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?’ He said, ‘But I will be with you, and this shall be the sign for you, that I have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.’ ” (Exodus 3:11-12)
Moses first question is Who am I? In other words, who am I that you would call me to do such a great task? Doubts circled in his brain; Can I do this? Will they kill me? Pharaoh has a huge, well equipped army.
Even though the work we are called to is not as large and important as leading the Israelites out of slavery, God calls us to important, life changing work. And like Moses, we may be overcome by doubts. Can I take a nursing management position? Am I qualified to be a professor and teach nursing? Do I have the right skills to work on a different unit or move to a different clinic? Has the Lord truly called me to a new position in ministry?
If we continue reading about Moses, we see he spoke to God honestly about his personal faults and his concerns. The disbelief of the Israelites, the strength of Pharaoh, and Moses’ speaking ability. God answered each one with a plan–a powerful staff and Aaron as a spokesman. God even performed a miracle by causing Moses hand to become leprosy and immediately healing it. (4:6-7).
When God calls his people to go before him proclaiming the goodness of the gospel (Mark 16:15).
Please note, after the Lord revealed his power and strength that he would provide, Moses still doubted and seemingly argued with God. At the heart, Moses didn’t trust God. As sons and daughters filled with the Holy Spirit, we can trust God to provide us with everything we need to the work he has called us to.
